“From early morning, I felt the nearness of the Blessed Mother. During Holy Mass, I saw Her.. She pressed me to Her Heart and said, ‘I feel constant compassion for you’.”

Diary, para.805

St Faustina Kowalska

For Catholics, the Blessed Virgin is central to our story of faith; She is the Mother of the Lord, a person we often hear mentioned at Church, and whose feasts we celebrate throughout the liturgical year. It is possible that outwith these occasions, we forget about Her to some degree. Of course, to do so is a great loss to us.

The single aim of the Blessed Virgin is to bring us ever closer to Her Son; to achieve this, She will use whatever means are at Her disposal and She will obtain for us every grace we need from the Heart of Her Son. She will do everything in Her not inconsiderable power to form a deep and loving relationship with us; but like every relationship, this one needs to be reciprocal. Even when we do not love Her back, still She loves us. But when we truly love Her as a mother, when we go to Her in all our needs, when we rely on Her help and intercession, She will move Heaven to assist us.

In our prayers today, let us ask the Lord for the special grace to love this most gracious of all mothers, to love Her as She deserves to be loved, and to place ourselves, our lives and all our needs in Her hands with full confidence in Her.
