Bring flow’rs of the fairest,
Bring flow’rs of the rarest,
From garden and woodland
And hillside and vale;
Our full hearts are swelling,
Our Glad voices telling
The praise of the loveliest
Rose of the vale.

O Mary! we crown Thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May,
O Mary! we crown Thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May.

The month of May is always specially dedicated by the Church in honour of the Mother of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary. It may be that you desire to have a closer or wamer relationship with the Blessed Virgin – and you can be sure that She would love this, too.

Perhaps this month is your opportunity to do something about that and learn to love and honour Her a little more. And if so, this is a treasure that will be with you all throughout your life.

Do you have an image of Her – a picture or a statue – in your home? If you do, then decorate that image with fresh flowers throughout this month and ask Her motherly intercession for all your needs and those of your loved ones; remember, on the Cross, Her Son gave Her to be your Mother. And if you do not have such an image – get one.

Above all else, get to know Her a little better. How? As you would do with anyone you wanted to get to know better – talk to Her. Tell Her about your life and everything that is in your heart right now, good or bad. Ask Her help – Her prayers are very powerful indeed.

And better still, join Her in prayer and ask Her to help you to pray or to pray better. The perfect way to do this is through the prayer of the Rosary, the prayer She loves more than any other, and to which She has attached such beautiful promises. It is the prayer She asks for over and over again.

Read about Her life in the Scriptures – certainly, not much is revealed, but what is there concerning Her is very powerful and we cand raw from it some excellent pointers on how to live a holy life.

Remember – developing a strong relationship takes both time and effort; it is the difference between making an acquaintance and cultivating a life-long friendship.
